At what age do children learn the ABCs?
Due to a lack of creativity I sang the ABCs to my kids when they were just newborns. I sang it for months, always ending with, “next time won’t you sing with me”. And then, when I least expected it, they started singing along by cooing one letter or similar sound back at me.
Over the following years the ABCs start to take shape typically following this pattern:
The ABCs are the fundamental building blocks of reading, writing, and communicating so let’s not think of “teaching the ABCs” as a lesson but as a process that occurs over a handful of years. Over the course of PS101 we’ll keep sharing content that revisits progressing through the ABCs so that we can maintain a good habit but let’s start with the ones below:
